A forged ID card may explain the anti-social behaviour that is rife in Buckfastleigh. A member of the public found an ID card in Buckfastleigh last week and handed it in to the police. The officer did not recognise the Buckfastleigh address shown on the card, and made inquiries at local schools. He found that the address and date of birth shown on the card were both false: the girl shown to be 18 on the card was, in fact, only 15 years old. Police are now asking shopkeepers and licensees in Buckfastleigh, Ashburton, Chudleigh and surrounding areas to be vigilant when selling alcohol to youngsters. If there are any doubts about the young person's identity or age they should not be served with alcohol. Any suspicious ID cards should be reported to the police at the earliest opportunity, and if possible the cards should be retained so they can be handed to the police for further investigation. All information will be treated in the strictest confidence. Anyone with any information about false ID cards should contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 or call the police on 08452 777444.
