Fears have been expressed for a number of jobs across the district after a family-owned greengrocery business went into administration.
Trouble struck at Bristol-based Stokes Plc on Wednesday. The firm, established in 1978, has 27 stores in the south west and Wales, four of them in Teignbridge at Newton Abbot, Bovey Tracey, Teignmouth and Dawlish.
It employs more than 270 people.
Shoppers in Newton Abbot on Wednesday witnessed the moment the shop there ceased trading. One eyewitness said: 'It happened at about 12.30 and this man with a clipboard and suit just walked up to the staff and ordered them to bring everything inside.
