AS if one Ten Tors challenge this year wasn’t enough, a team from South Dartmoor Community College are getting ready to do it again this weekend.

The team who help the Ashburton-based school at the annual event, are about to embark on a 35-mile challenge to raise money for three causes on Saturday and Sunday.

The team of five will be fundraising for the Devon Air Ambulance, as last year a student had to be airlifted during a training walk; Dartmoor Search and Rescue Ashburton and the community college.

The school team has a very old Ten Tors kit and base camp tents, so instead of increasing the cost to the parents, they are hoping to raise £1,200 to replace the kit.

Taking part will be Richard Orrell and Kenny Hill, who are parents who help out at training sessions, ex-student Ross Stamp who is a team leader, Jim Lodge and Cat Buckle who are both teachers and team managers.

Cat Buckle said: ‘We are going to be walking the route under the same influences, starting at 7am on Saturday and finishing before 5pm on Sunday.

‘The only rule we are breaking is carrying mobile phones for safety and so we can update the school’s Ten Tors Facebook page with our progress as we do the event,’ she added.
