The district's A level students were celebrating another round of great results on Thursday with some schools and colleges reporting 100 per cent pass rates.

From Teignmouth Community School in the south to South Dartmoor Community College on the edge of Dartmoor, desperately wished for university places were secured and firm foundations laid for many a career.

Heads and principals praised the efforts of their students and staff saying they had achieved much in challenging times. Typical of the comments were those from Vyv Game, head at Teign School, Kingsteignton.

He said: 'Our students have performed well against expectation and made very good progress since their GSCEs. 'Some 80 per cent have gained their preferred university place which in the current climate is excellent, they are under a lot of pressure.'
