A makeshift Chudleigh side which included five colts made the long trip to Bideford. The game was delayed due to rain and a wet outfield until 4pm before being reduced to 35 overs a side.

Chudleigh won the toss and elected to field in bowler-friendly conditions.

However, Bideford openers Fergus Bradbeer and D Hart made a good start, scoring 44 runs in nine overs until Hart (36) was bowled by Mark Heather.

Ben Ripley then ran out P Stevens with a direct hit and Chudleigh were back in the game.

I Haytor (29) was the next to go, stumped off the bowling of Mark Heather before Bradbeer was dismissed for 30 in the 25th over – a smart catch by Will Plunkett off the bowling of Jack Vittles.

Ben Ripley and Will Heather took late wickets to restrict the hosts to 183-8 – L Kerr top scoring with 40.

Will Heather (2-36), Mark Heather (2-20) and Ripley (2-15) were the pick of the Chudleigh bowlers.

In reply, the visitors did not make a good start, with opener Daniel LeMarquand out without scoring and Mark Heather dismissed for 15 – both caught at gully off the bowling of D Willcocks.

Colt Will Heather then gained the momentum for Chudleigh with a 40-ball 47 which included two sixes.

Ripley anchored the Chudleigh innings with a steady 37 until he was bowled by Haytor.

Chudleigh were 115-5 with six overs remaining and were looking for 150 for three batting points.

Matt Heather (17 not out) and Plunkett (14 not ) secured the losing draw for Chudleigh, but came up three short in the quest for the extra batting point.

D Willcocks (2-24) and J Weeks (2-33) were the pick of the Bideford bowlers.

Tomorrow, Chudleigh welcome Clyst St George to Kate Brook.
