Chudleigh 2nd XI made the long trip to Barnstaple in search of their second win of the season.
The home side won the toss and elected to field. Chudleigh made a decent start, with Jason Knight and Paul Horne putting on 24 for the first wicket before Horne (11) was lbw to M Brice.
The visitors then made some quick runs but, with the score on 99, Knight was bowled by Martin Clarke for 34.
Mark Heather continued to score runs at a good pace and, after 23 overs, Chudleigh were 106-2.
Heather was looking good after passing 50 but then he was caught and bowled by Clarke for 64, made off just 54 deliveries.
After the dismissal of Neil Argyle (16) a batting collapse followed with Chudleigh losing four wickets for nine runs, leaving them on 154-7 after 37 overs.
However, a partnership of 20 between colts Will Heather (12) and Jack Vittles (16) put a score of 200 within reach. Marc Shaw (seven not out) and Dave Williams (nine not out) managed to get Chudleigh to a respectable total of 196-9.
Clarke (4-50) and J Roe (2-33) were the pick of the Barnstaple bowlers.
The hosts started their pursuit of 197 in solid but defensive fashion – openers Dave Loder (24) and Peter Wright (nine) making 42 runs for the first wicket in 19 overs.
Robert Holm then tried to push the scoring rate along and was caught by Heather off the bowling of Shaw.
Next to go was Robert Wilkins, who was bowled by Will Heather for 29, leaving Barnstaple on 111-4 with just six overs to go.
Joe Brierly then steadied the inning and guided Barnstaple to the losing draw with a score of 31 not out, but not before Rodney Bowden (ten) was caught and bowled by Ben Tuckett.
Barnstaple finished up with 150-5 off their 46 overs – securing them a losing draw.
Shaw (2-25) bowled well for Chudleigh, along with Williams, who only went for 23 runs off his allocated 13 overs, which included five maidens.
Chudleigh will be disappointed at not winning the game after an excellent start, but will be pleased to secure the winning draw and some valuable points.
