Front-line crime prevention and community safety workers will next week quiz candidates for the new £85,000 a year position of Devon and Cornwall Police and Crime Commissioner.
The postholder will be given responsibility for setting police priorities, overseeing the budget and hiring the chief constable.
Elections are due to take place on November 15 and the old Police Authority done away with.
Next Tuesday, those standing willanswer questions posed by representatives from Victim Support, Devon Rape Crisis, The Princes Trust, Devon Senior Voice, Keychange Charity, Street Pastors and Community Action. Officers from statutory agencies such as the Probation Service will also be present.
