HEATHFIELD Community Centre holds its annual meeting tomorrow night (January 15) and supporters of the centre are calling for more locals to get involved.

Bovey Tracey town councillor David Elphick has been helping run the centre for more than 20 years. He said: ‘Andy Chamberlain is stepping down and we will be appointing a new chairman, as well as new officers.

‘We have had some new volunteers join recently but we’d love it of a few younger people stepped up to help. If more volunteer, the workload – which isn’t a great deal – becomes less onerous.

‘The centre is proving really popular with a lot of activities. It’s used for Scout meetings and keep-fit among others.

‘It’s for all the community and we would welcome anyone who wants to use it – even if that’s for playing cards or fortune telling!’

The meeting, which is open to the public, starts at 7pm.
