UGBROOKE Environmental Limited (UEL) has supported the Kingsteignton branch of the Royal British Legion to the tune of £10,000 – to improve the comfort and facilities of their Longford Lane premises.

Chairman of UEL Brian Rittershausen, with fellow directors Mike Penn and Lee Martin, joined branch members at a social evening on Tuesday to celebrate the installation of a new central heating system.

This has provided a much needed shot in the arm for the Kingsteignton branch which has been getting burnt by the mounting costs of staining its premises.

The Advertiser reported in August that legion could even face closure, after a survey revealed the need for a number of repairs to its headquarters.

The sum contributed by UEL, funded by Viridor Waste Management, is a distribution of landfill tax credits through the Landfill Communities Fund.

Mr Rittershausen congratulated the team of fundraisers who are working hard to raise much needed money for the ongoing repair and maintenance of the building.

Branch President Len Holland said: 'I would like to thank the legion's Fundraising Committee, volunteers and members for their excellent endeavours to raise funds. Without their strenuous efforts the club would not be able to function.

'I would also like to thank John Pike for the £1000 contribution from the Claude & Margaret Pike Trust.'
