Revised plans to develop 14 flats within the former Teignmouth Police Station have won support from district planners, despite neighbours fearing they will be overlooked and plunged into darkness.

Planning permission was first granted for the extension and conversion of the Carlton Place building in 2006. An amended scheme won approval in 2007.

Now McCarthy Contractors (SW) have been told they can increase the size of the proposed flats, a move that requires what planning officer Tom Wilson described as a further 'modest' extension to the first, second and third floors.

Permission was granted on Monday by Teignbridge Council's development control committee.
