COSMETIC staff at Austins department store in Newton Abbot have finally been able to hand over their money to cancer charity Macmillan Cancer Support – two years after the last fundraising event.

The money was raised in 2019 at the store’s beauty evening which was held before the first lockdown and it is only now they have been able to deliver the cheque for £1,100.

The presentation was held at the town centre store as staff are preparing for their next beauty evening on Wednesday, November 3.

Last year’s event had to be cancelled at the last minute as the country went into a second lockdown in November.

Cosmetics manager Sharon Lobley said: ‘It was such a shame for the charity that we couldn’t go ahead last year but it was planned just as we went into another lockdown so we had to refund the tickets we had sold.

‘But the Macmillan ladies were so happy to receive the cheque for the money we had raised two years ago. It is such a good cause.

‘We are hoping everyone can enjoy the next evening, it’s been a long time getting back to normality and we are really looking forward to it.

‘It’s hard work but so worthwhile and tickets are selling really well. It’s going to be a fab evening.’

Christmas stock is coming through well so there are lots of gift sets for Christmas in store.

More than 200 tickets have been sold for the next event Diamonds Are Forever which will feature singer Debbie Farrell as Shirley Bassey.

Tickets, available to buy in store, cost £5 with £3 redeemable on any cosmetic or fragrance products and £2 going to Macmillan and include nibbles, drinks, goody bags and mini makeovers.
