Chudleigh police enquiry office will be axed as part of government cost cutting.

It is one of more than 30 police receptions to close across Devon and Cornwall.

Newton Abbot has been reprieved.

Chudleigh Town Council chairman Richard Keeling said councillors had been consulted earlier this year about a reduction of hours at Chudleigh station.

'We protested against the cut and we totally condemn the recent news that the enquiry office is closing.

'However we are grateful that the main station remains open as we are an outline community.'
