BOSSES at Teignbridge Council are hoping to boot travellers out of a Newton Abbot park ‘at the earliest opportunity’

Several caravans pitched up in Sandringham Park on the Buckland Estate last week, only hours after an illegal encampment dispersed in Bakers Park on the other side of town.

Senior officers at the district authority have launched a legal bid to have the unwelcome guests removed.

A spokesman explained: ‘In accordance with legal procedures we are tomorrow approaching the court and seeking an order for possession of the land to enable the council to have them removed at the earliest opportunity.’

Travellers, who broke a gate to get onto the playing fields at Bakers Park, left the popular beauty spot on August 6 after being served with an eviction notice.
