KINGSTEIGNTON Town Council is to ask for an extra 5p per week from residents’ council tax bills, to cover added costs such as cutting grass verges in the town.

The council’s finance committee recommended a 7.5 per cent increase to the 2016/17 precept, which is the amount due to Kingsteignton Town Council from their section of council tax bills sent out by Teignbridge Council.

A spokesman for the town council said: ‘The reasoning behind this increase is to help defray some of the additional costs, created by the devolution of responsibilities from both county and district councils that is putting an ever-increasing strain on Kingsteignton Town Council finances.
