COUNCILLORS in Kingsteignton have asked for a detailed list of district council-owned assets in the town before they even begin to consider whether to take over control.

And they have been urged to look seriously at the financial implications of becoming responsible for any of the town's open spaces or buildings.

Teignbridge Council has contacted all town and parish councils about potentially transferring assets into local control.

Teignbridge deputy leader Cllr Stuart Barker has said the authority will give councils all the support they need to take over assets, adding that in the past the pitfalls had not always been explained.
