Teignbridge Council is reassuring benefit claimants in the district that they'll be kept fully informed on national changes being applied to housing benefit in April.

Changes to the way housing benefits are calculated will be taking effect across the country on April 1 after new rules announced by the government.

The moves may mean some tenants receive less money, and Teignbridge Council is writing to all its housing benefit customers to explain the changes, which may also mean more money for some disabled claimants.

The changes will only take effect for existing claims when benefits are reassessed, which happens on the annual anniversary of a claim, if a claimant moves house or if their circumstances change.

The new conditions will also apply to all new claims from April 1.
