R J Cole, of Greenhill Road, Kingsteignton, writes:
The councils of Teignbridge and Kingsteignton are without doubt completely out of touch with just what is taking place right under their noses. Newton and Kingsteignton have become gridlocked with traffic! This is not once or twice a week but daily. This is all due to the overdevelopment around the area and no
consideration being given to the major problems like parking and road infrastructure.
Long before the new flyover at Penn Inn was in place I highlighted that a single lane flyover would still lead to long tailbacks and I have been proved correct.
Planning approval of new houses should all include two parking spaces or at least one and a garage. Parking is a major problem in Kingsteignton with parking on pavements, onto roundabouts, and on corners and
T-junctions. The police are never around and traffic wardens are never to be seen. Due to the lack of police in Kingsteignton its time the council rates were reduced, just what are we paying for?
Dave Grylls’ letter in the MDA last week is correct in every way and should be given full support by all. Illegal parking and inconsiderate parking is very noticeable at Vicarage Hill, the junction of GreenHill Road and Vicarage Hill, Tarrs Avenue, Vicarage Hill and Church Street just to mention a few areas.
Kingsteignton Council keeps its head buried in the sand and puts little or no effort into the problems around the town. One councillor came to me and wanted to know just what was happeniing about a number of road junctions connected to a new building development! How embarrassing for him when I pointed out that as he is a member of the council that approved it all he should have known the situation!
The mayor looks spectacular in his chain of office, but again like others on the council I believe he will not rock the boat or stand up and be counted.
Teignbridge council is and has for the past few years been making cut backs on all services and pleading poverty! However, a miracle has taken place within Forde House and thousands of pounds have been found, only to waste on the unwanted redevelopment on Newton Abbot and even more disgraceful is the £300,000 that is to be spent on a travellers site!
The clue is in the name! Travellers don’t need a site – they are travellers.
