An attempt to abandon prayers at the start of council meetings in Kingsteignton has been thwarted and those behind the move branded 'small minded'.
Last week Cllr Ken Dennis tabled a motion at the monthly meeting of the town council calling for religion to be taken out of the chamber.
He said he had waited outside while prayers were being said since September 2008 and that opening each meeting with prayers was 'discriminating against anyone not a Christian'.
