A COUPLE who put up a fence around their Hennock home, causing a rumpus because it blocked out a view across the Teign Valley, have taken it down. Dartmoor National Park Authority Development Control Committee had narrowly refused a retrospective planning application for the fence – Simon and Hannah Sherbersky had put it up for privacy, but because it was next to a highway unwittingly broke planning regulations. At Hennock Parish Council's monthly meeting on Tuesday, members heard that the couple were not going to appeal against the DNPA's decision and the fence at Highgate House had been dismantled. Cllr Ann English said it was a sad tale and Mr and Mrs Sherbersky were now trying to leave the village. 'There was a bit of alarm that their visit to the parish council to tell their problems was reported in the Mid-Devon Advertiser and they were not expecting it,' she said, adding that she thought it did more damage to the situation. After the fence had gone up the couple had been sent anonymous letters, objects were thrown at their windows and some people had stopped speaking to them. Cllr English added that the newspaper comment in which she claimed Hennock villagers were described as spoilt children, she thought insulted villagers. 'It has given the people responsible the attention they required. It is obvious it is a very small aggressive element of the community who have caused the aggro,' she said, asking for an apology from this newspaper. Footnote: Mr and Mrs Sherbersky made their comments during the public speaking period at the January council meeting. If a reporter is present what is said is going to be reported. A report had already appeared in the newspaper of the DNPA development control meeting. As regards the newspaper comment – those responsible for sending the anonymous letters and throwing objects at the Sherbersky's windows were described as spoilt children, not everyone in Hennock.
