Newton Abbot Magistrates Court has been saved from closure after news of a court shake-up, the government confirmed this week.
Justice minister Jonathan Djanogly announced on Tuesday that 93 magistrates courts – including Totnes – will close across the country.
Forty nine county courts will also shut.
Newton Abbot and Torquay courts will take on the extra caseloads from Totnes.
He said that he hopes the reform of the court estate will 'help deliver a modern, efficient justice system with victims and witnesses at its centre'.<
