A MAN has been jailed for 26 weeks for assaulting a woman.

Alan Hirst, aged 41, whose address was given as Channings Wood Prison, Denbury, changed his plea to guilty of assaulting the woman causing her actual bodily harm.

He was sentenced to 26 weeks in jail by South and West Devon Magistrates’ Court.

The court report states: ‘Reason:Violent or sexual offence – public protection because persistent and prolonged attack against a vulnerable person whilst in drink, because the offence was aggravated by the defendant’s record of previous offending, because of an unprovoked attack of a serious nature.

Hirst must also pay £250 costs to the Crown Prosecution Service and £156 to fund victim services.
