The ethos of village cricket is alive and well in Denbury.

The club has a simple philosophy: to offer local people the chance to play village cricket the way it used to be played – with respect for umpires, fellow players and opposing teams and an overriding emphasis on enjoying the game.

'We do not play in any league,' said vice-chairman Nick Leslie.

'We much prefer friendly fixtures against like-minded opposition from nearby villages.'

Membership at Denbury encompasses all ages and abilities, including several father and son combinations. The club also boasts a lady chairman, Mavis Gooding, and a lady umpire, Sara Livesey but, as yet, no regular lady players!

'Every member of the club is encouraged to get involved, including helping out with pitch preparation and the tea rota,' added Leslie.

Denbury are keen to recruit a few new members. For more details, call Nick Leslie on 01803 812966.
