SECONDARY schools across Teignbridge have been hit for six-figure sums in a round of education cuts which could trigger redundancies next year.

All the big schools in the area have managed to avoid shedding jobs in their fight to balance the books after being rocked by a drop in central government funding of more than £500,000 this year.

But they are not ruling out job losses if the squeeze on their finances continues unchecked in the troubled times ahead.

One of the biggest casualties in the cash crisis is Ashburton's South Dartmoor Community College which has been lumbered with a £200,000 cut in its central government funding.
