A CYCLIST remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital after apparently falling from his bicycle on Dartmoor.,

Police say they do not think the 68-year-old casualty from Essex was the victim of a hit and run accident.

He was found unconscious on the Moretonhampstead to Postbridge road just before 5pm on Wednesday.

Devon’s air ambulance flew him to Plymouth’s Derriford Hospital for treatment. Two land ambulances, a rapid response car and a doctor, also attended the incident on the B3212.

Officers revealed today (fri) that a number of people who had seen the cyclist on the day had come forward to help with inquiries. A police spokesman said it appeared at this stage that no other vehicle was involved, although inquiries were continuing to confirm exactly what happened.

The cyclist, who has not been named, was wearing a cycling helmet.

He suffered a serious head injury in the accident. Police described the injury as potentially life-changing.

Anyone with information should ring police on 101, quoting log 635 of August 26.
