THE Environmental Protection Unit (EPU) from Newton Abbot Fire Station was mobilised to an incident in Torquay on Tuesday, August 22.

Upon arriving at the scene, the team were tasked with setting up a decontamination area for both themselves as well as for the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART).

Newton Abbot firefighters set about erecting a mass decontamination shower structure, known as a MD4, so that the gas tight suit operatives could be decontaminated in a safe manner.

All crew members then went through a safe undressing procedure to ensure all equipment and PPE could be safely removed and appropriately dealt with prior to future use.

'This call out was a good opportunity for all three of the emergency services to work jointly together and understand each others ways of working at protracted incidents' a spokesman for Newton Abbot Fire Station said.
