A FAMILY are desperately seeking Dumbo.

She is a 57-year-old Minisail sailing dinghy, and the first one was bought by a couple who retired to Bishopsteignton 25 years ago.

It was sold about 25 years ago, with no record of who bought it.

After looking through nostalgic family albums which featured the boat, their son and daughter decided to track down the old yacht.

They are wondering if she is still in the Teignbridge or surrounding areas.

‘I have joined the Minisail Association, and have written posts on their blogs and Facebook sites, but no-one know where Dumbo is,’ said Roger Llewellyn from Leeds.

‘Both parents have now died. My father John belonged to the Teign Corinthian Yacht Club, and often sailed up and down the Teign estuary. He was the national minisail class champion in 1967.But he eventually realised he would no longer be able to sail Dumbo, and sold her on.

‘There is a good chance that she may no longer exist, as wooden Minisails of this age are indeed rare. I have managed to acquire another Minisail that is also about 50 years old, and is in need of restoration, but would love to have Dumbo again. Someone may be sailing her still, or just have her in their back garden or local sailing club.’
