DARTMOOR is home to a range of rare and beautiful flowers, many of them small and often overlooked by walkers. The park is also host to a wide range of rare species of birds and butterflies.

If you have ever wondered what their names were and want to learn more about the natural beauty of the moor, the Granite Elements project is holding a couple of walks from Haytor where you can learn to identify the wonderful flora and fauna and even make a sketch or two.

The floral walk begins at Haytor Down car park and finishes at Yarner Wood, where walkers will be transported back to the starting point. It takes place tomorrow from 11am to 4pm and you are advised to bring suitable clothing and a packed lunch.

The second walk where you will be guided by experts and taught the lore of birds and butterflies begins at the lower Haytor car park by the information centre and takes place from 11am to 12,30pm on Sunday, June 25.

For more information about both walks contact Natural England on 01626 832330.
