POWDERHAM Castle will buzzing this Easter with the launch of a new Pollination Trail.
The trail will give a chance to discover a range of wildlife up close using the new Augmented Reality experience around the grounds.
Created by Octopus Immersive, The Road to Happiness Ltd, and Bristol-based street artist Jamel, the trail allows visitors to use their phone or table to follow the map and uncover fascinating facts and hidden secrets about nature.
It will explore the role bees, moths, butterflies, and even bats play in pollination.
The trail will take 20 to 60 minutes and is included in the Powderham admission ticket.
Designed for families with children from four years upwards, the trail can be enjoyed by everyone.
It includes nine interactive installations. Highlights include: The Swarming Hive where visitors can trigger an AR experience by opening up a beehive and scanning a marker to watch bees fly from the hive; The Watch Your Drawers exhibit will reveal moths as they fly out of chest of drawers; and the How Bugs See exhibit will give visitors a bugs-eye-view of the world.
Susan Hill, on behalf of The Road to Happiness, said, ‘This is more than just a great day out; it’s an opportunity to have fun while learning about the incredible world of insects and the role they play in biodiversity and the sustainability of the planet.
‘We have worked with Octopus Immersive over the last year to bring this to life and are grateful to Powderham Castle for giving us the opportunity to pilot it for a month this Easter and with thanks to the Arts Council for helping to fund the development.’
A spokesman for Octopus Immersive, added: ‘This is probably the only experience in the region which combines cutting-edge Augmented Reality, a meaningful lesson on climate change, and biodiversity set in a grand, historic setting.’
The Pollination Trail runs daily at Powderham Castle from April 3 to May 22.
