WAyland VAn Hyldyck-Smith, of Forde park, Newton Abbot, writes:
Following the dreadful report of two pensioners fighting for a disabled bay in an up-country Asda store in which one was punched to the ground and subsequently died – and as one with a blue badge who is frequently violently verbally abused by members of the general public – may I point out one or two things which it would appear the general public do not seem to know.??
We are all very grateful to all such as Asda who provide specific bays and whereas it is obvious that there are never enough bays, it is perfectly in order for us to park in any other bay providing we display our blue badge with the correct time.
No, we are not freeloaders trying to save money at your expense by not paying, and the fact that we are permitted to park in non-specific bays does not mean that able-bodied folk can use a designated disabled bay even if it is empty.??
You should also be aware that we do not necessarily have to be chronically arthritic, bent double crones to qualify; there are many other conditions available to both us and younger folk if needed whereby we have the right to a disabled bay.
A few are asthma, heart conditions, diabetics, and many other specific diseases, loss of limbs, etc.
So please, as you can do so much more physically that we sadly, cannot do, do not begrudge us this concession.
remember there but for the grace of God...etc.MORE LETTERS IN OUR DIGITAL EDITION
