Roy White, of Naseby Drive, Heathfield, writes:

As electors and tax payers we watch the news and read the papers and see the politicians, who are supposed to lead and govern us to the best of their ability and in our best interests, do anything and everything but.

Teignbridge can find nothing better to do than penalise a cab driver who declares she has an allegiance to the English flag and, being local, knows the local area. For this 'crime', she could be deprived of her livelihood, adding to the number of the unemployed. Does this, any of this, make sense?

Joan Atkins, in the MDA of November 29, is another person concerned about the loss of public conveniences in the Teignbridge district. Others of us are concerned about that and the loss of the CCTV in Newton Abbot, at a time when to all intents and purposes, there is no visible policing. And why? We are told, because of the lack of money.

But actually, there is no lack of money; what there is, is a real lack of any sensible understanding of priority by our politicians at all levels.

They would rather waste money on Equality Policies and the officers required to oversee that and other unnecessary nit-picking meddling in our lives. Get rid of the non-jobs in local councils and the CCTV and public conveniences could be retained.

But most local councillors and MPs and no government ministers or the Opposition have any connection with ordinary reality. I fear there is no hope for them, and little for us because of them.

I guess the best thing is to do one's own prioritising and concentrate on what is really important and try to ignore 'them'.MORE LETTERS IN OUR DIGITAL EDITION
