A proposal to close the Teignmouth Hospital minor injuries unit and concentrate the facility at Dawlish Hospital is 'really exciting', according to a local doctor.
Dr Matthew Fox, a Dawlish GP, was enthusiastic about the changes and told Teignmouth town councillors it would mean improved overall services at both hospitals.
But most members of the finance and general purposes committee on Tuesday were not wholly convinced, and wanted the local MIU kept open.
One councillor even feared it could be the thin end of the wedge, leading to eventual closure of the hospital.
