POLICE are appealing for information after an out-of-control dog attempted to bite a horse in the Teign Valley.

The incident happened on Sunday at Fingle Wood. A woman was riding her horse when a Staffordshire bull terrier, which was off the lead, ran over and tried to bite the horse.

The rider was able to guide the horse away but the dog ran after them for about a mile.

PCSO Carl Thomas is appealing for help to identify the owner of the dog.

The horse rider was unable to give a description but the woman owner was seen with two other dogs, another older Staffordshire bull terrier and a smaller terrier.

PCSO Thomas said: ‘Although the dog didn’t manage to bite the horse, it kept running alongside the horse and its rider for about a mile.

‘It may be the dog slipped its lead or had been let off the lead. But when dogs are in a public place they must either be on a lead or under control.’
