A SINGING dog from Buckfastleigh was one of the problematic pooches featured on Channel 5’s Dogs Behaving (Very) Badly last night (March 21)
Professional musician Becky was having both her house concerts and teaching sessions interrupted by her four-legged lead singer Badger - with less than harmonious howling backing vocals.
Enter dog-whisper Graeme Hall to see if he assist in could taming the beast who enjoyed adding bum notes to the music.
‘I’m a professional musician and play all the time,’ explained Becky on the show.
‘However Badger does now insist on joining in all the time. It’s both funny and sweet but has become very stressful. I’m having to carry her up stairs and shut her in a bedroom whenever music is being played.’
Becky had lived with Badger’s vocal accompaniments for 13 years - and the time had come to call in canine expert Graeme.
Fortunately the dog trainer was able to quickly identify the underlying problem .
‘She just wants to be part of it,’ Graeme explained. ‘When music is being played Badger feels she’s not the centre of attention and is worried she’s out of favour.
‘It’s just a question of teaching her that she’s still loved when she’s quiet.’
In the end the key to getting Bader to learn the score was rewarding her for not joining in - which now leaves Becky free again to engage in her passion of performing and teaching music.
For those wishing to hear Badger is full vocal form the programme is currently available on there My5 website https://www.channel5.com/show/dogs-behaving-very-badly/season-5/episode-12
