KING'S Teignton Ram Roasting Fair was also the village's celebration for The Queen's Golden Jubilee but there was a special tribute to a woman whose connection with the fair goes back 25 years.
Catherine Harris was presented with a special bouquet in a ram trough by Tony Beard, the Wag from Widecombe, who opened the event, to celebrate her own silver jubilee as the fair's secretary.
The day began with a thanksgiving service conducted by the Rev Bob Bamberg and attended by about 30 people.
After the opening the Kingsteignton Brownies gave a semaphore demonstration that bore the message 'God Save the Queen.'
A fine display by the Exeter City Pipe Band preceded the crowning of Jubilee Queen Emma Vallance, and May Queen Beth Neal.
Excellent maypole dancing the girls and one boy brought their decorated poles for judging - the winner was Martha Neal, sister of the May Queen with Laura Markham second and Rebekah Holmes third.
Several former May Queens and attendants came forward posed for a photograph and signed the visitor's book.The committee hopes this will become an annual occurrence.
The two rams were expertly cooked by Jimmy Gates, Peter Tibbs, and Evan Froome, with their delicious ram rolls. proving extremely popular.
Dream Team Taekwon-Do gave a special display of martial arts and there were many stalls including Punch and Judy, and an exhibition was staged by The Ball Clay Heritage Society.
Although the crowd number was slightly down on last year nevertheless about 4,800 people attended the celebration and the committee is hopeful that after all expenses have been paid several charities will benefit from the fair's profits.
