Ipplepen won the toss and elected to play up the slope and into the wind in the first half.

The brave decision was backed up by their defending and goalkeeper as they repelled wave after wave of Broads' attacks.

However, the home side had to acknowledge that it was partly their complacency in front of goal that led to the stalemate at half time.

Manager Jeremy Long pointed out that Broads would have to show the same battling qualities in the second half as their opponents if they were to take anything from the game and that's exactly what they did as they fought for every ball.

When Ipplepen did breach the defence, they found goalkeeper Luke Margrie in sparkling form. It wasn't all defending as Broads did make a number of forays forward, with Jack Saunders and man of the match James Attwood driving them on.

It was one such attack that led to Ipplepen taking the lead. When Broads won a corner they committed a lot of players forward, knowing chances would be few and far between, but Ipplepen broke quickly, Broads missed a few chances to clear and they were a goal down.

After all the efforts to protect their goal this was a body blow and it would have been understandable if heads had dropped, but Broads showed great character to bounce back.

Charlie Ross ghosted past two defenders and then used his less favoured right foot to pick out Todd Ballman at the far post. Ballman then teed up Jay Jones who struck a clean drive that was superbly saved by the Pens' goalie, but when the ball fell to Ross' stronger left foot there was only one outcome as the ball nestled into the back of the net to give Broads a hard fought and deserved draw.
