A dumper truck driver escaped death by inches after his vehicle overturned and trapped him underneath it.

Road construction workers pulled the 36-year-old driver, from east Devon, clear before emergency services arrived.

He was attended by a doctor and paramedics before the Devon Air Ambulance airlifted him to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

The man had been driving the four-wheel drive dump truck, which was carrying soil in its front bucket, on the replacement B3193 road between Kingsteignton and Chudleigh, around 11.50am on Wednesday when it is believed he had to brake sharply.<
