Hele Park's director of golf, Duncan Arnold, had a temporary change of role – coaching and caddying his father Doug to victory at the EGU Seniors' Championship at Yelverton & Tavistock Golf Clubs. They planned their way round during two practice days at the courses, and Duncan caddied for him on the first day of the competition. Hele Park shop assistant and promising golfer Ben Martin then caddied on the remaining two days of the championship. Martin said that he had learned a great deal from his experience. 'I have never played in conditions like this – the wind was gusting at 60mph and the course was running extremely fast,' he said. 'On the last day I thought Doug had blown it, with six bogies in the first nine holes and lying five shots behind the leader. 'But when I asked him how he felt, he replied that he needed to have a couple of good holes to get back into contention. 'He then birdied holes 11 and 12 and parred up to the 15th when others around him were being blown off the course. 'I learned it is essential to never give up and always approach each shot with a patient but positive attitude – you never know what's going to happen.' Arnold shot rounds of 71, 71, and 79 to claim the title.
