A 20-year-old woman who deals with daily epileptic seizures is taking on the London Landmarks Half Marathon this spring to raise awareness about the condition.
Macey Williamson, who was diagnosed with epilepsy at the age of three, hopes to prove that those with disabilities, whether visible or invisible, can still achieve their goals, while raising money for Epilepsy Action.
‘As I have had epilepsy for the majority of my life, I know the importance of charities and organisations being there to help you,’ Macey said. ‘My aim throughout this is to make other people with epilepsy proud and to represent us,’ she added.
She. will be running the 13.1 miles with her dad, Ben Williamson. Both are familiar figures at Buckland Athletic Football Club. Macey is a matchday hospitality assistant at the club’s home ground, Homer’s Heath, while former first team captain, Ben, manages the Girls Under 18 side, which includes Macey’s sister, Liv, among the players.
Macey and Ben have already smashed their original £700 fundraising target and are keen to raise as much money as they can for Epilepsy Action.
The charity aims to create a world without limits for everyone affected by epilepsy. As well as providing information, support and advice about the condition through its helpline, befriending services and community groups, Epilepsy Action campaigns to improve epilepsy services and works to raise awareness of the condition though training courses and resources.
The London Landmarks Half Marathon takes place on Sunday April 12. The course takes in several historic London attractions including the Tower of London, St Paul’s Cathedral, Nelson’s Column and the Houses of Parliament.
