A retired Kingsteignton couple wants Teignbridge Council to sniff out the polluter they claim is releasing vile smells and fine dust and grit into the atmosphere.

Pensioners Colin and Sylvia Jenkins, of Chudleigh Road, said the problem has been going on sporadically for about five years. The Environmental Health department has erected air monitoring test sites in the area, but so far appears to be no nearer to tracking down the source of the nuisance.

Mr Jenkins, 70, contacted us after another incident on Monday evening, when the smell was so bad they closed all their windows and switched on the air-conditioning.

Mr Jenkins woke up on Tuesday to find ash and grit on his car and window sills.

'It must either be the quarry or Viridor as there is nothing else in the area,' he said.

Mrs Jenkins, 68, who suffers from heart failure, said the problem makes her breathing difficulties worse.
