A Teignmouth Royal Navy pilot was awarded his 'wings' on active operation with four fellow trainees – the first time it has happened since the Falklands War.
The ceremonies took place on RFA Argus while on her way to Sierra Leone to help tackle the Ebola outbreak in Operation Gritlock, and Lt Dan Gregory, 27, was presented with his Wings by Capt David Eagles.
The five helicopter pilots, normally based at Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose, Cornwall, were due to round off their intense training course on board the aviation support ship this month, but the ship was redeployed at the last minute.
