STUDENTS and staff at Newton Abbot College went on a rather unusual fundraising mission.
A group of five students and two members of staff spent the day with a dummy in their mouths in a bid to drum up cash for the Torbay Special Care Baby Unit.
The effort, which raised more than £50, was the brainchild of Year 9 student Jack Nicol.
He said: ‘We tried to be as creative as we could and wearing dummies for the day was the most interesting thing we could think of.
‘Our teachers were very supportive – we had to either remain silent all day, or speak with our dummies in our mouths – but they were really understanding.
‘We don’t mind making ourselves look silly if it helps raise money for charity.’
English teacher Hannah Le Couilliard was very impressed with the students’ efforts.
She said: ‘I am so proud of all the students who took part.
‘It was quite embarrassing for them to be seen by their peers with dummies in their mouths and it certainly took a lot of courage to do it.’
