AN expanding Kingsteignton primary school could soon have some much-needed extra space.
Plans have been submitted to Teignbridge Council to extend part of St Michael’s Primary School in the centre of the town.
The single storey extension will provide more teaching space and a new toilet and cloakroom to the existing temporary Elliot Building.
Work will also include a new access ramp to improve accessibility and a new roof.
A statement from the developers Hart Ireson says: ‘The space is needed for the growing school.
‘There are no WC facilities within the building at present.
‘There is a clear need for the teaching space that will be provided by the unit and it is essential that works are completedd this summer and ready for use in the 2017 summer term.’
Part of the school, the Church House, is Grade II listed.
The 440-pupil school has been rated as outstanding by Ofsted inspectors and is part of the United Schools Trust.
A decision on the proposals is expected in May.
