BUDDING mechanics at South Devon College Automative Skills Centre, Newton Abbot, were given an insight into wheelchair transportation.

Kay Yendall, manager at Newton Abbot Community Transport Association, arranged for representatives from specialist company Unwin Ltd to chat to the youngsters and demonstrate some of their products.

Earlier this year one of the association’s vehicles was no longer cost effective to repair so decided to donate it to the college so it can be used to teach students.

In return, the students are working their way through the charity’s fleet of vehicles, cleaning and carrying out basic checks.

Ms Yendall said: ‘We are delighted that the Automotive Skills Centre have been able to make use of our old vehicle to further learners’ knowledge and we are just as delighted that they are returning the favour by helping to keep the rest of our fleet’s interiors in good condition, ready for our passengers.’
