ONE of Dan Rouncefield's pullets is a big layer. Almost seven-and-a-half-months-old, she has been laying a 4oz egg daily, but on Wednesday last week she surprised her owner further by producing a monster 5oz egg. Dan, a 70-year-old retired landscape gardener, of Barn Park, Buckfastleigh, has a couple of dozen chicken and was amazed by the size. 'For a young pullet that is some egg,' said Dan who has kept poultry for longer than he cares to remember. Normally when young pullets start laying, the eggs weigh around 1 3/4oz, rising to 2oz up to a year old.
