EMERGENCY repairs to a mains sewer have forced the closure of the main street in Bovey Tracey.

A section of Fore Street from Abbey Road to Orchard Terrace was closed to traffic on Tuesday to allow the repairs to be carried out by workers from South West Water.

Motorists are being diverted via Le Molay-Littry Way and Bradley Road

A SWW spokesman said today: ‘Work is progressing well on site. We have exposed the damaged pipe this morning and once it has been repaired we will then backfill and reinstate the road surface.

‘We anticipate final resurfacing will take place tomorrow morning, enabling us to fully reopen the road on Thursday evening.’

The main street is a busy shopping centre and SWW have been ensuring deliveries were still able to get through.

The spokesman added: ‘Our customer liaison officer visited as many businesses as possible on Monday afternoon to advise that work would be taking place. We have a banksman on site to help maintain access for those who need to receive deliveries within the closed section of road.’
