EXETER based artist James Tatum gave an enjoyable demonstration and talk to Teignmouth Art Society members at the Teign Heritage Centre.
His work is fast, furious and vibrant and in his studio he normally works with much vigour and energy, using an incredible array of implements from three inch decorating brushes, a squeegee tile cleaner, chops sticks, crumpled paper and even kitchen utensils.
It may sound completely mad, but the amazing expressionistic pictures have a vibrancy and life, and as he put it, they are ’painted from the heart’.
James in a previous existence was an engineer, and precision was essential and a matter of life and death.
