DOORS to a Newton Abbot care home are to be flung open this weekend to give the public an insight into what its residents do.

Meadowside Residential Home is hosting an open day on Saturday – part of a national scheme – jam-packed with different activities.

The event starts at 10.30am with town mayor Cllr Ann Jones making an appearance at 11am before a light lunch at 1pm and a ukulele performance from 1.30pm.

Meadowside, a home for adults with learning difficulties, can be found on Highweek Street, near Newton Abbot Leisure Centre.

Home manager Aymi Brown said: ‘The residents always love to meet new people and show off the pottery and artwork they have made.

‘We are a hidden gem in the centre of Newton Abbot and it would be lovely if we could get a good turn out.

‘There are always volunteers needed to help with certain tasks but if you just want to come along to have a look around the home and meet the residents that would be great.’
