AN amazing and irreverent performance from two master entertainers is set to take place at St Matthews Hall in Topsham next month.

The contrast of Wild Willy Barrett’s deadpan humour and outstanding musicianship to John Otway’s mad onstage antics and lyrical genius is hilarious.

From their legendary Old Grey Whistle Test showstopper, hits and misses over the years, they have been at it and each other ever since!

Hang on to your hats and be prepared for anything from bare-chested theremin to wah wah wheelie bin playing as they jump from hit to hit with several near misses along the way. John Otway is a totally unique performer and self confessed “Rock n’ Rolls Greatest Failure”, by turns a sensitive songwriter and then totally outrageous on stage.

First hitting the headlines on a live OGWT performance of “Really Free”, vaulting over the PA stack bringing it crashing down, and quoting The Independent “then landing on the sharp corner of the bass cabinet cushioning the blow with his private parts”, achieving legendary status as a result!

Partnered by Willy Barrett’s astounding ability to play every stringed instrument known to man, plus a few hybrids that are of his own making, are a central core of the show and no two performances are ever the same.

Age has certainly not diminished their enthusiasm and athleticism so always expect the unexpected and possibly the last chance to catch the mismatched dynamic duo and their magnificent mix of music and mayhem. How many antics, how much hilarity and excitement can the audience take? With these two on stage who knows!

Tickets for the 8pm gig on July 4 can be booked at the venue’s box office website at https://exeterphoenix.org.uk.
