RED Earth Opera will be performing at Chudleigh Parish Church this weekend in a gala concert with a distinctly royal feel.

Plenty of celebratory fizz and sparkle can be expected on Sunday evening when famous opera solos, choruses and incidental music will raise the roof in a concert entitled Kings and Crowns.

The  theme of royalty and nobility will include such favourites as Nessun Dorma and Take a Pair of Sparkling Eyes and feature soloists Anna Gregory (soprano) and Ceri Davies (tenor), supported by the Red Earth Opera Chorus and Orchestra, under the baton of conductor Jane Anderson-Brown.

Red Earth Opera was formed in 2013 by local performers and musicians looking for opportunities to sing and play opera in Devon.

said: ‘We started from a base of nothing – no funds, just enthusiasm and determination,’ said Jane Anderson-Brown. director of Red Earth Opera.

‘Our singers and players are drawn from Devon, Somerset and Cornwall (and beyond) and range in age from under 18 up to past retirement.

‘We also offer places in the orchestra and chorus to talented young musicians from Torbay and south Devon. Our aim is to present affordable opera …which is approachable and enjoyable. We also want to give performers opportunities at all levels.’

Sunday’s  celebratory coronation concert  promises to be a joyous and uplifting contribution to the weekend’s royal  celebrations, with an evening of sublime and beautiful music.

Tickets for the 7.30pm performance can be booked at  www.ticketsource.co.uk/southdevonsingers.
