Jools Holland and his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra are on the road once again this winter and will be paying a visit to Plymouth Pavilions on next month with special guest Imelda May.

One of Ireland's most celebrated artists, Imelda May was discovered by Jools, first supporting him on tour in 2008, and has gone on to perform alongside legendary artists including such luminaries Lou Reed, Bono, Tom Jones, Noel Gallagher, Elvis Costello, Robert Plant, Van Morrison, Jeff Goldblum, and Ronnie Wood.

She has performed all over the world in front of royalty and politicians including Barack Obama and at the 52nd Grammy Awards with Jeff Beck.

With a dynamic blend of blues, rock, soul, gospel, and jazz, Imelda's self-written and produced album 'Love Tattoo' remains the best-selling album by a homegrown female artist in Ireland. Her electric performances always promise an unforgettable experience for audiences.

‘From the moment I first heard and saw her, I realised that she is one of the true greats of music who understands old and new music,’ said Jools, Jools expressing his enthusiasm for her vocal talents. ‘Her ravishing voice can illuminate both ballads and Boogie Woogie like no one else’

The tour will also mark an exciting new chapter as Ed Richardson is welcomed in as the orchestra’s new drummer, following the retirement and recent sad death of the legendary Gilson Lavis.

After starting out together in Squeeze, Gilson became a cornerstone of Jools' Rhythm & Blues Orchestra, keeping the beat over a span of several decades and retiring with an incredible legacy.

Reflecting on his new role, Ed said: ‘I’ve been a fan of Gilson since my dad first sat me down in front of the annual New Year's Eve Hootenanny.

‘His iconic style left an indelible mark on me, and now to step into his shoes is both a challenge and an honour. Naturally I will do my utmost to continue his legacy and keep the drum chair just as exciting as he made it!’

And fans will be thrilled to hear that the show will once again feature the incredible 'Queen of Boogie Woogie' Ruby Turner, as well as the outstanding vocals of Louise Marshall, and Sumudu Jayatilaka.

Together with the skilful musicianship of the Rhythm & Blues Orchestra, Jools will be performing songs from throughout his career. With a catalogue of classics to choose from, the show is sure to once again have fans on their feet.

Support for the gig on December 12 comes from London-based singer/songwriter Freddie Lennox. Freddie crafts melodic and retro poetic pop songs and his music is inspired by the likes of Jackson Browne, Mississippi John Hurt, Bob Dylan, Muddy Waters, and The Beatles.
